Gerard is obsessed with inventing miracles, and so when a friend presents him with a baby as a gift, he is convinced the baby is a genie who will grant his every desire.
But what Gerard doesn't realize is that the baby is a baby, and not a giant man!
Gerard, together with his friend Ambrose, must learn the art of trickery, lying, and jinxes in order to help the baby.

His two friends learn to look for help and assistance in trickery when they themselves become trapped in terrible situations.
The little Gerard has given the boys a good lesson in how not to be tricked by others!

Plot Summary
One afternoon, as the young brothers Ambrose and Gerard are playing near their home in France, they see a baby tumble into their arms. The child, they soon realize, is not only a baby, but a magical baby, who soon reveals that he is the grandson of a famous general.
"Indeed, he is a famous general, a Brigadier General, he has his own name, Etienne Gerard, and he is the son of a famous French soldier, General Joseph Gerard," explains the baby, referring to a historical figure.
The three of them are soon on the road to looking for the father of the baby, and the story of how Etienne Gerard meets his father's death and later becomes a famous soldier of Napoleon is told.
